In business under the present ownership for over 15 years, the New Glarus Lumber Company traces its roots back to the original Lovejoy Lumber Company, which was founded in 1887.  Current owners, Jeff Kernen and Al Zimmerman, started working together in 1973 on a building crew with Menard Ag Buildings. After a successful career there, they teamed up to purchase the New Glarus Lumber Company in 1999, focusing on local businesses and contractors in Green County's "Little Switzerland" area. Honoring their own Swiss heritage, the new partners chose emblems representative of their respective grandfathers' Swiss origins for the company's logo and adopted the motto still proudly used.

New Glarus Lumber's business grew and made possible the purchase of Monroe Lumber in 1999, thus expanding their stock to a complete line of building materials.  As well as a full range of lumber offerings, their products include floor systems, trusses, windows and doors, kitchen cabinets, counter tops and plumbing fixtures, plus flooring from carpet to ceramic tile.  Today the two stores provide nearly every item needed by contractors and do-it-yourselfers for their building or remodeling projects.
